Abstract
This standard contains the German version of the European standard EN 61643-21 which takes over the International Standard IEC 61643-21. Its specifications serve for the verification that the necessary requirements for surge protective devices (SPD), which are used for protective purposes in telecommunication and signalling networks, are fulfilled by these devices. Hereby two basic types of SPD are taken into account: SPD with only voltage-limiting components and SPD with voltage-limiting and current-limiting components in one housing. The requirements directed to SPDs are divided into general, electrical and mechanical requirements. In relation to the previous edition of the standard a series of single modifications were done.
