NA 022 German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies of DIN and VDE

The DKE German Commission for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies of DIN and VDE is the German body responsible for developing standards and safety specifications for the electrical engineering, electronics and information technology sectors. Founded in 1970, DKE carries on the electrotechnical standardization activities of the "German Standards Committee", DIN's predecessor, and the work of the Association of German Electrotechnical Engineers (VDE) (now called the "Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies"). DKE's activities also include all standards work in the electronics and information technology fields that were not assigned to other DIN Standards Committees in 2000. DKE's core objectives are to develop, revise and amend DIN Standards and VDE specifications in the areas mentioned above, and to arrange for the publication of these documents, promote their implementation, and answer queries regarding their application and interpretation. The Commission represents German interests in electrical engineering, electronics and information technology at regional and international level, and as a result is responsible for standards work in the relevant standards bodies (primarily CENELEC, ETSI and IEC). According to the DIN Guidelines for Standards Committees, DKE is to be included in the work of the DIN Standards Committees as regards electrical engineering standards work carried out at ISO and CEN. This also applies when the Standards Committees participate in individual projects at CENELEC, ETSI or IEC in agreement with DKE. A major aim of DKE is to ensure the technical consistency of electrotechnical and IT German Standards with the relevant regional and international recommendations and regulations. According to § 4 of DIN's Statutes (as of October 1997) and the Guidelines for Standards Committees in DIN, the Commission is deemed a Standards Committee - and thus an organ - of DIN, the German Institute for Standardization. At the same time, DKE is a division of the VDE according to § 14 of the VDE Statutes and is traditionally designated an organ of VDE. VDE, the Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies, is the responsible body for the Commission. The Commission's work results are laid down in DIN Standards, are deemed German Standards within the DIN "Normenwerk" (body of standards), and are adopted, where appropriate, into the VDE body of technical rules as VDE specifications or guidelines, as well as VDE prestandards and supplements.
